John,
It was truly my pleasure to have attended your class. Your teaching style and patience allowed me to learn a good deal in the two weeks I was there and I plan on returning for further instruction in the next few months. I know I've only seen the 'tip of the iceberg' and I am sure that you have a lot more knowledge to impart. You really understand how to deal with all types of skin and how to achieve attractive results with permanent cosmetics.
I am glad that I ignored the nay-sayers and doubters of the coil machine method and attended your course. I have shown the photos of the work I assisted with and have received many positive comments, especially the photos of my own sister, who, as you know, is very happy with the lips and eyelash enhancement I did on her.
Thank you for everything. You are one of the most generous people I have met and I look forward to learning more from you and continuing our professional connection. This new skill set will definitely allow me to make the changes I desire in my career.

Dear John,
May 3, 2010
Wow where do I start? I guess thank-you would be a good place to start. Thank-you for everything, you are an incredible man. I am so blessed that God sent me your way!
I had a rough five years before I came to you and I knew the second day of class that God had sent me to you. My mother-in-law had Parkinson’s disease and I had spent the last five years not working outside the home and helping with her. |

In an 18 month period I watched 10 people that I loved die, my father-in-law, my mother-in-law, my sister’s husband, a neighbor and several friends. And somewhere along the way, I lost myself.
I had permanent make-up done by a lady who has been an instructor for twelve years and I was really intrigued by it. I had asked her about classes and she explained that it was a five day class. I was shocked! I could not wrap my brain around the fact that they would give you a certificate to tattoo a woman’s face after only five days of training!!! I questioned her and she said "don’t worry; it’s a piece of cake." I called several places in Missouri and they were all five day classes too. But it still didn’t sound right to me, how could you tattoo a woman’s face after 30 hours but to be a nail tech or a cosmetologist you need I think 1500 hours? Anyway, fortunately for me she never had time to schedule me for a touch up. We both know what a crappy job she did on my eyes and my lips had no color in them after 30 days. After seeing some of the corrections you have done, I am glad I never got my "touch up" appointment with her and consider myself lucky that she didn’t do anything worse to me!
Anyway, my husband and I had went to Clearwater in March of 2009 to visit a friend and ended up buying a bank foreclosure. I went to Florida in August last year to work on the house and to get away from things for awhile. I called several places in Florida to find out about permanent cosmetic school and all of them were five day classes too. I even explained that I wanted to be able to do areolas of cancer survivors. They all explained that it was "advanced techniques" and required ONE EXTRA day of class! I told them I wanted to be able to offer this pro-bono for cancer survivors and all of them said "why would you want to do it pro-bono, you can make a lot of money with it." I was shocked and disappointed. Then I found your web site. I emailed you and I got an email back that said it would be a couple of days before you could call me because your wife was in the hospital and your family came first! I was thrilled! Not that your wife was in the hospital but that you were the kind of person whose family came first. That really says a lot about a person! After a couple of days you did call me, and fortunately your wife Lisa was ok. We talked for awhile but one of the first things you said to me was that you would not graduate someone after five days that it took longer to learn permanent cosmetics than that!!!!! I also explained I wanted to do areolas and wanted to offer it pro-bono and your reply was music to my ears! You explained that you offered pro-bono work to any cancer survivor, that "it isn’t just about the money, but also about giving something back!" I almost cried. You also explained that you are a retired Marine and you were very blunt and honest and if someone’s work sucked you told them it sucked but if they did a good job, you told them they did a good job. I explained that my father was a Marine and I had always been told I was "brutally honest" so I thought we would get along just fine. So here I had found a man to teach me permanent cosmetics that put family first and who also had served his country! I have a very high regard for the military and all the people who have served our country. I knew before I met you in person that you were the one I needed to learn permanent cosmetics from! I was so excited that I finally found someone who really did give a shit and that it was about giving something back!!!!!
I started class the last week of August, 2009. The second day of class Nancy came in from Indiana to have you correct the mess someone had made on her face. I talked to her quite a bit and asked her why she came to you to have the corrections done. She explained that she had been researching it for over two years and your name kept coming up, that you were the one to fix everyone else’s mistakes. I knew then that God had directed me to you. Nancy looked fantastic when you were done!
After five days and a couple of hooked needles I said to one of the other students, "look at this pig ear, could you imagine this being a woman’s face?" Needless to say, I had a pretty sorry looking pig ear! And to think, at any of the other schools I would be graduating at that time!
John, you are awesome! You told me that after a few days, you noticed me squinting on the video tape and thought I should have my eyes tested. You were right of course. I had Lasik surgery done a few years ago and I have mono vision so when I got reader glasses from Wal-mart they threw off my depth perception. With one eye for up close and one eye for distance the reader glasses messed with my depth perception, I needed bi-focals with two different lenses. And they really do help! My work started getting much better and far more consistent. Such a little thing can make a big difference. And how many schools pay enough attention to notice something as minor as a student squinting?
You are very serious about your art, but you also make school so enjoyable. There was never a day that I wasn’t excited about going in to find out what new thing I would learn that day. And there was never a day go by that I didn’t learn something new. In fact, I feel like I could work with you forever and continue to learn something new every day. You are a wealth of knowledge and the world is a better place because you are in it.
John you and your wife Lisa are incredible people; so are your girls Melissa and Megan! You both are always so eager to help. I know that life has throne you more than your share of tragedies but through it all you maintain a positive attitude and continue to help people even though they sometimes throw it back in your face. I have watched you do countless procedures for free, you continually give supplies away, you buy machines and supplies for the tattoo artists to help them out and you give and give and give. In fact, if you would have charged everyone for all the work you have done or all the supplies given out, you would be a millionaire by now.
I have watched all the women hug you when you get finished doing a procedure and watched a man cry when you told him you were not going to charge him for scar relaxation when he told you he was a cancer survivor. I could go on and on about what a wonderful person you are but someone only needs to spend a few minutes with you to figure that out.
I have seen students and clients come from all over the world to train under you or have you do corrective procedures to fix someone else’s mistakes. I have seen you give women the greatest gift of all, to feel like a woman again after they fought cancer and won but didn’t really feel like a woman anymore because they didn’t have areola’s and had scars all over their chest. I could go on and on and on but the main thing I want to say is "thank-you." Thank-you for being an incredible instructor and thank-you for being my friend. I am proud to say I was trained by John Hashey the world renowned permanent make-up instructor but even more proud to be able to call you my friend. You helped me with establishing a new career that I can feel really good about but you also helped me spiritually and emotionally. After many years of feeling like I really had no purpose in life, I now have a purpose and it is thanks to you. If I would have gone to one of the five day schools I know I would never have had the knowledge or the confidence to do permanent make-up for a living. I cannot tell you how reassuring it is that I can come back to school whenever I want or need help. But more than that is the lifetime of technical support you offer. You do not give someone a diploma and send them on their way; you are there for us for any questions we have or help we need. It makes it so much easier starting a new career knowing you are only an email or a phone call away.
When I started school I told you I wanted to be the best permanent make-up artist out there. Well as long as you are doing procedures I will have to settle for being the second best!
So John, from the bottom of my heart, Thank-you; you are a living example of a true Christian man. God Bless you John Hashey.
Sincerely,
Michele D’Alessandro

Dear John,
March 6, 2010
Thank you for the time spent together. I heard that you were the best and you delivered. You are a great instructor and even better at what you do. But most of all you are caring, patient and very generous.
Being a self-taught tattoo artist, I moved through your program rather quickly. Although I realized immediately that there is an enormous amount of information to be learned and I had only scratched the surface. I am already planning to return to you to learn more.
I look forward to apply the new skills that I have learned. Not only permanent make-up but to my traditional tattoo work as well.
I can't wait to try my new machine that you built, nice and light.
Thank you for the Norman Rockwell poster and other gifts. And last but certainly not least, my beautiful tattoo that I will cherish forever.
Sincerely,
Erin Forsberg
